Plant
The definition of “plant” that is given in the OH&S Act 2004 is:
(a) any machinery, equipment, appliance, implement and tool; and
(b) any component of those things; and
(c) any fitted, connected or related to any of those things
Some examples of “Plant” are any machinery or equipment that:
- cuts, drills, punches or grinds material including tools such as knives, hock cutters, brisket saws
- presses, forms, hammers, joins or moulds material,
- combines, mixes, sorts, packages, assembles or knits material eg cryovacs
- lifts or moves materials or people including conveyors or vacuum lifters
Other types of “Plant” include:
- forklifts
- tractors
- lifts
- earthmoving machinery
- cranes and other mobile plant
- mini loaders
- lasers
- scaffolds
- temporary access equipment
- explosive-powered tools and
- amusement structures
Some types of “Plant” are considered “High Risk Plant” and may require a license from WorkSafe. Of particular relevance to meatworkers is the need for a license for High Risk Work such as operating forklifts or cranes.
All plant is not covered in the Consolidated Regulations, but it is all covered under the OH&S Act.
